When a fire destroyed the former Farmer's Hardware building on West Main Street in downtown Forest City on August 31, the Plaza Barber Shop next door sustained extensive damage. Unable to use the building, barber shop owner Lisa Enloe and her 18 employees moved around the corner to 121 Cherry Mountain Street where she opened a temporary barber shop.
"Oh, we'll go back," Lisa said during an interview recently while completing a man's haircut.
"We just don't know when yet," she said.
Lisa said she isn't sure how long the repairs will take as there was extensive smoke and water damage and part of the roof was also damaged.
"The roof will have to be replaced," she said.
She and others haven't been able to get into the damaged building to assess the damage.
In the meantime, Lisa said, she and her 18 employees are working in the temporary shop where every barber chair was moved and relocated. Richard Dyer was among her customers in the shop on Tuesday afternoon while other customers were at various stations.
The shop is open Monday-Friday from 7am to 5pm and on Saturday from 7am to 3pm.
The move to the original 108 W. Main Street, Forest City address, will happen when it's possible.
In the meantime, if a Plaza Barber Shop employee is needed, "just walk on in" Lisa said.
"We don't do appointments, just walk-ins."
Lisa refers to the relocation and getting the building wired and plumbed for a barber shop, "a business miracle."
