What ranks highest with you?

After Pearl Harbor, General Theodore Roosevelt was flying on a plane and seats were hard to come by.  At a stop, priority was served on a very young sailor, but he wouldn’t get off the plane.  “I want to see my mother,” he said.

“Sorry son,” the ticket agent said, “There’s a war on, you know.”

Having heard all of this, General Roosevelt stepped up to the counter and said, “Give him my seat.  I’ll take a later plane.”

Successful Gardener Program
“Bulbs for the Garden.’” Spring, summer or fall bulbs can be used to brighten any landscape. Learn about the varieties for our area, time to plant and the care needed for flowering bulbs Tues. Sept. 11, 9am-11am at the Rutherford County Extension Center; 193 Callahan-Koon Rd. Spindale. The program is free, but you are asked to contact the Extension Center at 828-287-6011 to register.

Relay for Life Book Sale 
We just added some brand new books and refreshed our used book section. We also have DVD’s and some books on tape. Hardbacks are $2 and paperbacks are $1. All proceeds benefit the Rutherford County Relay for Life. The sale will continue throughout the summer or until the books are sold. Held at Rutherford EMC; 186 Hudlow Rd., Forest City. Mon.-Fri., 8am-5pm.
