It’s funny how things work out in life. Just a few years ago, Laura Hopper Ray was a star softball pitcher for East Rutherford, then went to North Greenville College to get an education and pitch there as well.

Laura never made it to the state championship as a player, but she could make it there soon as a coach.

In her first year as the softball coach at East Rutherford, Laura Hopper Ray has led her alma-mater into the Western Regionals after beating West Lincoln and then Madison at home last week.

Outdoor Truths
I was a mischievous youngster. Not mean, just mischievous. The local gang of boys got a little rowdy when all of us came together. I remember things like throwing eggs on Halloween, building a foxhole to hide in on the Fourth of July after we lit our fireworks, and even sneaking around in places that we were not allowed to be. I don’t know if all kids were that way but this was the makeup of the boys of Ford’s Woods. We played football, basketball, and baseball together. We hunted and fished. We fussed, cussed, and fought among one another, only to make up in a few days.

What’s eating you?

There is a type of jellyfish that lives in the Bay of Naples, Italy.  In that same bay are some snails.  When these snails are small, a jellyfish may swallow one of them, but the jellyfish can’t digest the snail because the snail’s shell protects it.

And so the snail fastens itself to the inside of the jellyfish, and in a cruel twist of fate, slowly begins to eat the jellyfish.  When the snail reaches maturity, it’s consumed the entire jellyfish.  The eater becomes the eaten.

So what’s eating you?  What have you swallowed lately?
