It was a first time event for the Forest City Owls. As an important part of the community, the Owls created a very special salute. On Saturday, July 7th, a special Breast Cancer Awareness- “Pink Out Night” was held at McNair Field. Everyone was encouraged to wear pink. Money raised was to be given to cancer needs in Rutherford County. All of the coaches and players pink shirts, along with the pink bats from the evening’s game against the Columbia Blowfish would be auctioned off. Everything turned out to be a sell out!
First year General Manager, Jeremy Boler, who initiated the event, said he couldn’t be more pleased. Despite the heat wave the “Pink Out Night” raised over $3000 for cancer! Jeremy also said: “I’m so pleased with the success of this event, that we’ve now going to do it every year. The fans were very responsive to this idea and I’m very proud of them!” The Forest City Owls “Pink Out Night” was a definite big home run for the Owls and community. It was a definite display of the positive spirit of Forest City and Rutherford County.
It was unfortunate that the game ended in the third straight loss for the Owls. The final score was 9-4. It was the first time all season that the Owls have lost three in a row. This game put the Columbia Blowfish within a half-game of the first place Forest City Owls in the overall standings.
First year head coach Phil Disher is very happy with the Owls. He has nothing but praise for the Forest City Owls organization from the front office to the McNair Field ground crew. He believes he has the best playing facility and players. His goal, as first year coach, is to go all the way and win the championship. As a member of an All-American team and twice being named an MVP, in his personal baseball background, his goal may very well be achieved.
There is plenty of good baseball left this year. Also, for the very first time, the Forest City Owls will have a free game! The first 1,000 fans on August 2nd, will get a free hot dog, chips and soda! Does it get any better than this?
We salute the Forest City Owls and their fans for making “Pink Out Night” yet another successful example of the great giving spirit of the Rutherford County community.
Aren’t you glad you live here? See you at the ballpark!
