Charles S. Martin, age 89

Charles S. Martin, age 89, of Rutherfordton, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023.

Charles was born May 3, 1934 in Rutherford County to the late J. L. Martin and Lilly Weaver Martin. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and served during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic. After his military discharge he traveled around the country working on machines as a maintenance technician. Charles finished his career at Milliken and Company before retiring. Charles was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and was currently attending High Shoal Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Quinza Martin, Geneva Bartee, Thelma Haynes, Dorcas Greenlee and Eunice Harrill; four brothers, Dames, Pervis, Lloyd and Cecil Martin.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Inez Martin of Forest City; special friend, Joan Benfield of Forest City and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held June 28 at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Shane Adkins officiating. Military honors were accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
