Chimney Rock Park

Kick off the new year with an inspiring hike and get one step closer to making state parks a regular part of your exercise routine and life. Join a Chimney Rock State Park ranger at Rumbling Bald Climbing Access, a non-fee area of Chimney Rock State Park, on January 1, 2014, at 1 p.m. to hike the Rumbling Bald Trail.

Constructed with the help of local volunteers just one year ago, this one-mile roundtrip trail leads to the bottom of Rumbling Bald and the east side boulder fields. Learn how the park uses ecological information to reroute old trails and plan new trails. Bring water, dress warmly and wear sturdy hiking shoes. Additional fun New Year’s Day and year-end events include the 6th Annual New Year’s Day Polar Plunge at noon at Lake Lure, N.C., WinterFest in Chimney Rock and Lake Lure at 5-9 p.m. December 20 and 21, and a Grady’s Wildlife of WNC program included with park admission at 2 p.m. on December 28 at Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park. The Park will be open daily weather permitting December 26 –January 5, after which winter hours return to being open Friday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the ticket plaza closing at 4:30 p.m. More information at chimneyrockpark.com.
