Clarence Roland Hames, Sr. "CR" born in the High Shoals Community on January 26, 1923 to the late T.H. Hames and Docia Wall Hames.

CR was the youngest of seven children. After graduating from Tri High School he worked in a cotton mill in Cliffside, and then later joined the US Army. CR served his country in the Philippines during WWII. Shortly after returning home, he met the love of his life, Palma (Pam) Mae Morrow and they were married in April of 1947. During that time he went to work for Southern Bell, where he was a Switchman for thirty- five years. CR and Pam had a son Clarence Roland Hames, Jr. (CR).

CR enjoyed hunting and fishing but his main hobbies were "piddlin" with Volkswagens and being a beekeeper. People from all over would come to CR's to work on their "bugs" because not many people worked on Volkswagens back then. His honey was also a big hit throughout the county.

CR was an active member and Deacon at Oak Springs Baptist Church, Rutherfordton for many years and attended church for as long as his health would allow. In the last year and four months, he enjoyed being at White Oak Manor where he was loved by many.

CR was preceded in death by his wife Palma. Left to cherish his memory is his son Clarence Roland Hames, Jr. (CR) of Rutherfordton; two granddaughters; five great grandchildren.

Service was held at Crowe's Mortuary. Military honors were accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Burial held private.

Crowe's Mortuary is assisting the family.
