Gilkey School Community Center
All Class Reunion & Community Activity Sat. Aug. 27, 12pm until at the old Gilkey School. Time Capsule will be dug up at 2pm (buried since 1975). BBQ Dinner at 4pm, cost $8. Music by a local DJ.

Chimney Rock Events
5th Annual Race to the Rock Sun. Aug. 28. Race to the Rock climbs the steep, winding Park road and finishes in the top parking lot with breathtaking 75-mile views of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. 30th Annual Historic Morganton Festival
Sept. 10 & 11. The Festival opens Friday at 3pm with a sampling of fine arts and crafts, festival cuisine, a wine garden featuring NC Wineries; kid and teen zones and 4 stages.  Saturday kicks off with a Sunrise Run on the Greenway at 8am and then the streets open at 9am with more artisans, crafters and National Country Music star Rodney Atkins.  Free Admission!

Bingo at the VFW
Every Thursday night at 6PM. Refreshments & food are available for purchase. The top prize for the last game is $500. Proceeds from bingo benefit veterans in the surrounding communities. Located on Withrow Road. Forest City.

Free Course for Families of Mentally Ill
The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Rutherford-Cleveland is offering this series of 12-week classes beginning Thurs. Sept. 8, 6:30-9pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, in Shelby. The class is designed to help people who are dealing with the issues of living with a loved one who has been diagnosed with one or more of these no fault biological brain disorders.
