Operation Medicine Drop
Sat. Sept. 29, 10am-4pm at the following three locations: •Holland Furniture, 177 N. Main St., Henrietta  •Food Lion, 169 Railroad Ave., Rutherfordton •Food Lion, 668 S. Broadway, Forest City. Operation Medicine Drop is a prescription drug take-back event that allows residents to turn in their unused/expired prescription and over the counter medications. Proper disposal of unwanted medications helps prevent accidental poisonings, drug abuse, and groundwater contamination. Equally important-- it also helps prevent prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands. 
Grilling & Chilling Workshop
The Rutherford County Extension Center will host on Sept. 29 in the promotion of our local agriculture industry. This year’s focus is on “Youth in Agriculture”. Tickets will be available through the Extension Center through Sept. 24. For more info call 828-287-6011.

Candidate Forum
The Rutherford County Chapter of the NAACP will sponsor a Candidate Forum of the 2012 Candidate Election for Rutherford County. The forum will be held at the Old Dunbar Community Center, Hardin Road, Forest City. Sun. Oct. 7, 5pm. The public is invited to attend.

Extension Successful Gardener Program
Composting-participants will learn how to turn all those fall leaves and vegetable/fruit materials from the kitchen into ‘black gold’ for your landscape-compost.
