Domestic Violence Education/Support Group
Women who are victims of domestic abuse, or who never want to become victims, are invited to a free Domestic Violence Education/Support Group which meets 2 hours each week on Tuesdays.  Contact Dr. Johnnie Martin @828-286-9590 or Sally Claroni @ 828-245-1390, Ext. 104 for times and location.  Great information, interesting activities, and a caring, supportive environment.

Pregnancy Resource Center 
“Walk for Life” Sat. Sept. 7, 9:30am-11:30am at Bethel Baptist Church; 606 S. DeKalb St. Shelby. This event allows individuals, families and churches within the community to participate in the life saving work of the Pregnancy Resource Center of Cleveland County. Funds raised help the Center provide alternatives to abortion for moms, dads and families facing crisis pregnancies in Cleveland County. Call to sponsor a walker or become a participant. Free Mental Illness Education 
6 week Family-to-Family classes structured to help families understand & support individuals with serious mental illness while maintaining their own well being. No cost to participate in Program. Memorial Motorcycle Ride
A motorcycle ride is planned from Columbus NC to Hendersonville NC to honor the memory of 4 Americans who lost their lives in Benghazi, Libya on Sept 11, 2012. There will be short programs at Veteran’s Park in Columbus NC starting at 10:30AM and at One Historic Courthouse Square in Hendersonville NC starting at 12:30PM. Info: 352-638-2981.
 
GRACE Support Group

Extension Successful Gardener
“Made For The Shade” Sept. 13, 9-11am. Guest speaker, John Vining, County Extension Director-Polk County, will share the many plant materials that can be used for landscapes with limited sunlight. Golf Tournament to fight MD

Join Communities In Schools of Rutherford County as they host “Short Stacks for Big Change” Pancake Breakfast on Sat. Sept. 7, 8am-10am at Fatz Café in Forest City! The NC Cooperative Extension will be hosting three Consumer Focus Groups in preparation for the relocation into a permanent setting and the possible expansion of additional services to the community.
