David Lynn Baynard, age 61 of Rutherfordton, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019.

David was born in Rutherford County on September 27, 1957 and was a son of the late Virgil "Junior" Baynard and Jean White Baynard. David retired from Rutherford County Solid Waste Department.

David was a member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and more recently had attended Long Branch Road Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Chase High School, the Nashville Diesel College and was a volunteer firefighter. David began at the Danieltown Fire Department as a young firefighter and in 1987 when the Department was re-named S.D.O. Fire Department he continued to serve as a firefighter and on the Board of Directors. His time in fire service totaled more than 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Baynard.

Survivors include his wife, Vanessa Rhom Baynard of the home, his son, Shawn Baynard of Forest City, his daughters, Nicole Baynard Burnette and husband Andy of Rutherfordton, Christy Baynard of Forest City, a brother, Terry Baynard and wife Debbie of Rutherfordton, a sister, Shirley Alley and husband Dean of Forest City. There are also three grandchildren.

The funeral service was held in The Padgett and King Chapel. Interment followed in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Firefighter Honors accorded by the Rutherford County Firefighters Honor Guard and the Officers and Members of S.D.O. Fire Department.
