Doyle Splawn, age 79

Doyle Splawn, age 79, of Mooresboro, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Doyle was born July 20, 1943 in Rutherford County to the late Shuford Splawn and Lennie Brown Splawn. He was a graduate of Tri-High School, and Isothermal Community College. Doyle served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a two-time purple heart recipient. He owned and operated Doyle's TV Repair in Dallas, NC and served as a deputy sheriff at the Rutherford County Sheriff's department. Doyle also worked as the plant engineer for Precision Cutting in Spartanburg. He was a member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepson Shane Holland, sisters Eloise Gunter, Martha Melton, Norma Hopper, Sally Oakes, Dorean Westbrook and brothers Herbert, Eugene, Gerald and William "Whitey" Splawn.

Those left to cherish fond memories are his wife of 33 years, Erlene Padgett; daughters, Donna Sprouse (David) of Forest City and Kim Ledford (Larry) of Ellenboro; son, Jody Splawn (Deanne) of Rutherfordton; stepdaughter, Shellie Easler of Spartanburg; stepson, Kelly McSwain (Amy) of Mooresboro, three grandchildren, along with many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held October 29 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Glenn Walker officiating. Military honors were accorded by Rutherford County Honor Guard.
