Ernest McGaw, age 93, of Rutherfordton

Ernest McGaw, age 93, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away April 25, 2026, and went home to be with his Lord.

Ernest was born to the late George Clarence McGaw and Mary Elizabeth Burns McGaw. At the age of 20, he married the love of his life, Dolores Hodges, beginning a marriage that spanned more than 73 years.

In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his two sons, Ernest Phillip McGaw and Paul Anthony McGaw.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores McGaw, and his daughter, Sherry Elaine McGaw Norred, and husband, Fred.

Ernest proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked as a billboard installer for an advertising company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.

A funeral was held April 29 at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bruce Caldwell officiating. Military honors were provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
