Ethel Edgerton Metcalf, wife of John Samuel Metcalf, passed away Tuesday November 29, 2022.
A native of Rutherford County, Ethel was the youngest child of John Harris and Estelle Caroline Edgerton.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by siblings Memory, Wayne, Dob, Alton, Hoyle, Lillian, Mildred, Lois and Theo.
Graduating from Gardner Webb and Limestone Colleges she went on to teach in Rutherford County Schools for 34 years; primarily at Ruth Elementary where she received teacher of the year on 2 occasions. Ethel was also a graduate of Mt. Vernon High. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
In addition to the love of her life, Sam, who she was married to for 68 years and met in 1st grade, she leaves cherished memories with her daughters Anne Parton (Warren), Caroline Wellmon ( Larry); two grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A service to celebrate her life was held December 1 at Mt Vernon Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Courtney and Dr. Richard Bass officiating.
