Frances was born March 6, 1928 in East Paterson, New Jersey to the late Gary Van Assen and Lena Dekezel Van Assen. She was a graduate of Franklin High School, class of 1946 and worked in retail sales for many years. She most recently was employed by Roses Department Store. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and was an avid reader. She was an active member of the Rutherford County Senior Center where she helped with meals on wheels, participated in the Senior Games and provided help to shut-ins. She truly had a heart to help others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Gordon Pierce; two brothers, Garry Van Assen and Louis Van Assen; two sisters, Marie Overnolte, Eleanor Hall and one great-grandson, Darren Forest.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Pedroso and husband, Manuel of Newington, Connecticut and Elaine Ellenberger and husband, Bradley of Forest City; five grandchildren, Monica Pedroso, Manuel Pedroso, Jr., Tiffany Carson, Jessica Green, Keith Ellenberger and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced on a later date.
