Henry Neil (Soapy) Castles Sr. age 87

Henry Neil (Soapy) Castles Sr. age 87, of Charlotte went home to his Lord on August 4, 2022.

Born in Marion, NC October 1, 1934 to the late Donald Jackson Castles and Elizabeth Rucker Castles. Neil is preceded in death by his wife Iris Jean Castles, infant brother Donald Wray Castles and grandson Brandon Ray Dalton.

Neil is survived by children Susan Mowbray (Ken) of Southport, Donna Wolfer (Dean) of Galveston, TX, Neil Castles Jr. of Morrisville, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three brothers-n-law's Roger Gallion, Wayne Gallion and Dennis Gallion.

Neil "Soapy" Castles was a retired NASCAR driver racing from 1957 to 1976.

He won the Grand National East Series Championship in 1972 being one of only two drivers to hold that honor. Racing provided a path for a dual career as a stunt driver in the motion picture industry and later in life as picture show coordinator for stunts and transportation.

Services were held August 10 at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, Rutherfordton with Pastor Brian Blanchette officiating.
