Chief examiner for THR & Associates, Donna Kaaikaula, works on appraisal.
You think it’s just junk and you start to throw it away. However, on second thought have you have heard about THR & Associates.

They are in town, specifically Forest City, at the Holiday Inn Express and are looking for and buying a lot of things. Things like coins, toys, paper currency, wrist and pocket watches, jewelry, guitars and instruments, sports memorabilia, historical documents, military items and comics. The list is endless. THR & Associates came here this past Monday and will be here through Saturday. They are at the Holiday Inn Express from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Saturday which will conclude their visit at 4 p.m.

When I visited THR, a lady who was about to throw away some jewelry brought it in, had it appraised and walked away with $200! It almost ended up in the trash. A cameo was being appraised which had come from England and was 195 years old. A lady who had bought an old trunk for $25 found an Indian Head penny and a gold coin inside. She thought the penny was worth some good money only to find out that the gold coin was the prize. It netted her $850!

A man and his wife brought in an old sewing machine, another person came with Korean War Medals. A very interesting game also came in. It was a Zipper Skill Gaming Machine. It was made in 1953 and was used for gaming as well as gambling.

A most unusual piece and highly desirable.

No one can imagine how much money can be made by bringing in household trash which can become a treasure and net the owner some surprise cash.

Donna Kaaikaula, a THR & Associates specialist, even after years of buying, is still amazed how much money is just sitting around or stuck away in a shed, basement, or forgotten room. She and her associate Anita Merritt are constantly evaluating items that people present to them. A key thing to remember is, don’t prejudge your item and don’t be embarrased to bring it in. You just never know that what you may think is junk is really a treasure ready to bring in some instant cash. So, if you need money, you have until 4 p.m. Saturday of this week to see if THR & Associates will write you a check.
