Iris Barnes McGuinn, 87, of Rutherfordton

Iris Barnes McGuinn, 87, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Monday, July 20, 2026.

Iris was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Daniel "Dan" McGuinn, and her parents, F.M. and Nannie Bell Barnes.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lynn McGuinn Roper and husband, Jeff; grandson, Dustin Roper and wife, Beth; and two great-granddaughters, Kaitlynn and Elaina.

Iris graduated from R.S. Central High School in 1957. She sold Tupperware for 19 years.

Her greatest adventures were shared with the love of her life, Dan. The two met at Dean & Floyd's Grocery in Spindale and were married January 15, 1959, beginning a remarkable journey together that spanned more than six decades. In recent years, they especially loved working side by side at the Mountain State Fair in Arden, and the Spartanburg County Fair.

Iris was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Gilkey. Her faith was quietly evident in the way she loved others, cared for her family, and faithfully walked through every season of life.

The family will have a private graveside service. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm Saturday, August 8 at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, followed by a time of receiving friends from 1:30-3pm.
