Eleven current students in the Dental Assisting Program at Isothermal Community College were given a generous gift Friday.

Dr. Madison Crumley, president of the North Carolina Dental Society Foundation, presented the students with a check for $16,500 to cover the cost of the remainder of the training program, which they will complete in July 2023. The students are Michaela Parton, Guadalupe Rivera, Valerie Herrera, Mikisha Akers, Madilyn Wilson, Vanessa Sorto, Zoie Lankford, Marianella Juarez, Yoshanda Moss, Haileigh Wexler, and Autumn Brown.

Crumley made the presentation Friday morning at the Isothermal Polk Center in Columbus. The Dental Assisting Program is housed there and at the nearby MAHEC Dental Clinic on the campus of the St. Luke's Health System.

Stacey Jenkins, director of the program, arranged the scholarship presentation. "The NCDSF has been a huge blessing to the dental assisting program at ICC. Students have been able to receive scholarships that assist them in the spring and summer semesters. This extra push from the NCDSF is what some students need to continue their progress and goal of completing the dental assisting program and starting a great career in dentistry. I want to thank the NCDSF for their support and encouragement of our program!" said Jenkins.
