James D. "Sonny" Wells, Jr., age 91

James D. "Sonny" Wells, Jr., age 91, of Henrietta, passed away, Friday, July 28, 2023.

Sonny was born November 8, 1931 in Rutherford County to the late James Daniel Wells, Sr. and Cleo Etta Butler Wells. He was a graduate of Tri-High School. Sonny was a partner with his family at J.D. Wells and Sons Supermarket in Henrietta for many years. He was a member of the Avondale United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha McDaniel Wells; brothers, Robert Wells, Lawrence Wells and James Franklin Wells, Sr.; sisters, Lula Miller, Ruby Upchurch; a niece, Susan Cox and husband, David.

Survivors include his five nephews, two nieces, sisters-in-law, Janet Turner and Patsy Rich.

A graveside service was held August 2 at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Robert Hodgens officiating.
