James Ray Head, 79, of Rutherfordton

James Ray Head, 79, of Rutherfordton, NC passed away September 9, 2026.

Ray was the son of the late Joe Millard Head and Winnie Bertha Clements Head of Rutherford County and was predeceased in death by his brother, Larry David Head. Ray was a 1965 graduate of R-S Central High School, attended NC State University and worked his entire career at the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Ray was a member of Adaville Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Head, his son, Jason Head of Forest City, his daughter, Meredith Eichholz (Derek) his grandson Henry, sisters, Barbara Edney (Willie) of Bostic and Carolyn Smith (William) of Rutherfordton, sister-in-law, Annette Head of Forest City, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held September 14 at Padgett and King Mortuary followed by a private graveside service.
