Jasper Hal Davis, age 75, of Rutherfordton, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018.

Hal the son of the late Lee and Elizabeth Clements Davis and a native of Rutherford County and born September 30, 1942. He was preceded in death by his wife Penny P. Davis and a sister Barbara Lanford. He was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of Rutherfordton Masonic Lodge #91 and served as District Deputy Grand Marshall of 59th Masonic District and was also a Shriner. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and spending time at Sunset Beach. He was part owner of ADD Construction Company. Hal retired as public works director for the Town of Rutherfordton.

Hal served his country valiantly in the U S Army during the Vietnam War. It was quoted in a newspaper article of PFC Jasper Davis as follows: "During the period, 13 September 1963 to 3 October 1963. Pfc E-3 Jasper H. Davis, 120 Aviation company, distinguished himself by meritorious achievement while engaged in aerial combat support of ground forces of the Republic of Vietnam. During the cited period he actively participated as a Crew Member of an Army Aircraft in at least 25 combat operational or aerial reconnaissance missions in the combat zone or over hostile territory in support of counterinsurgency operations.

On various occasions his aircraft was the target of hostile small arms and automatic weapons fire. At all times, he displayed the highest order of the air discipline and acted in accordance with the best traditions of the service. By this outstanding degree of professionalism and strict attention to duty brought great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States

Army." Some of the commendations he received during his two tours of duty are Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Metals with Oak Leaf clusters, Expert Rifleman, Marksman Rifle.

He is survived by: Four Sisters: Kaye Earley, Jean Hardin and her husband Hubert, Carolyn Vess and her husband Harold, Elsie Robinson and her husband Bill. One Brother: Raymond Davis. Special friend: Rhonda Beam and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service was held at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Dean Baughn officiated and military honors were provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Interment was private for the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Rutherford; PO Box 998; Rutherfordton NC 28139 or the Community Pet Center; 861 Piney Ridge Road; Forest City, NC 28043.
