Every month Rutherford Outdoor Coalition (ROC) recognizes an exceptional member who goes above and beyond in their service and participation. Jeff Hodge has been named April's exceptional volunteer.

Jeff has been an extremely active member of ROC the past couple of months, regularly attending trail workdays, river paddles and clean ups, hikes, and the recent camping trip. Jeff is a trail boss for the ICC Trails, walking them monthly to report any trail maintenance issues and providing helpful suggestions of future projects for the trails we can work on.

Along with ICC, Jeff has volunteered countless hours on Buffalo Creek Park, Weed Patch, and Dittmer-Watts trails to work on any problems needing to be taken care of. Jeff holds years of experience using chainsaws, helping tremendously with clearing dangerous and fallen trees off the trail. Some may call him a "Renaissance Man", and with his knowledgeable skill set in many different topics, the nickname speaks for itself, said ROC spokesperson.

During a workday at Weed Patch recently in Lake Lure, Jeff and other ROC volunteers and the Town of Lake Lure, helped cleared three downs trees on the trail and installed new signs at emergency access point.

"Jeff is a selfless volunteer who is truly passionate about the outdoors and goals of ROC. With his calm, friendly, and humble attitude, you couldn't ask for a better person to be out on the trails with. The work Jeff has done for ROC makes him an extremely valuable asset to this organization, and we are so thankful for all that he has done," the spokesperson said.

Also in April, ROC announces its Photo Series with the theme Spring Flowers. The photo contest concludes April 30.

The April prize is a $25 gift card to Bubba O'Leary's General Store in Chimney Rock.

To enter the contest, upload photos to Facebook or Instagram and use #RUTHERFORDOUTDOOR. One entry per day. All may participate, but only members are eligible to win the prizes.
