John Andrew Horne, age 87

John Andrew Horne, age 87, died Thursday, March 26, 2026.

John is survived by his wife of 66 and a half years, Sarah Harmon Horne; sons Mark Horne and wife Debbie, Charles Horne and wife Martha; grandchildren Alison, Andrew and fiancée Samantha, and John Patrick; siblings Linda Roach (Leon), Howard Horne, and Van Horne (Sondra); sisters in law Becky Chapman (Bill), Deborah Clements (Stan) and a number of nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Macie Hyder Horne, sisters Guynell Green, Geraldine Horne and Joyce Crowder.

John was a member of Spencer Baptist Church for 67 years. He proudly served his church as a deacon and served on various committees.

John spent his career in fire fighting, beginning as a volunteer for Spindale in 1962. John became a paid fire fighter in 1970 and was promoted to chief in 1973. During his career he attended meetings of the NC Firefighters Association and became President in 1988. He also served on the NC Fire Chiefs board and served as president in 1994.

Funeral services were held March 29 at Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Caldwell and Rev. Larry Gregg officiating.
