Martha "Jane" Whitmire, age 91

Martha "Jane" Whitmire, age 91, of Forest City, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, June 18, 2023.

Jane was born August 5, 1931 in Rutherford County to the late Tim Dyer and Nancy McGinnis Dyer. She worked for many years at Cone Mill and as a store clerk for Sky City Department Store and Family Dollar. She was a member of the Village Chapel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Rev. George W. Whitmire; brothers, Marshall and Carmon Dyer; sister, Ruby Jolley Hill; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Whitmire, two grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Those left to cherish her memory include five daughters, Nancy Dyer (Frank) of Bostic, Alice Gaulin (Peter) of Stratham, NH, Karen Fish of Forest City, Carrie Whitmire of Boiling Springs and Febie Keever (Ricky) of Rutherfordton; five sons, George Whitmire (Susan) of Bostic, James "Jabo" Whitmire (Renee) of Rutherfordton, Freddie Whitmire (Tammy) of Forest City, Bobby Whitmire of Forest City and Thomas Whitmire (Dana) of Forest City, 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

The funeral was held June 22 with Rev. George Whitmire officiating.
