Mary Helen Vickers, age 87

Mary Helen Vickers, age 87 of Forest City, died November 19, 2021. Helen was born on August 26, 1934, in Rutherford County and was the daughter of the late John Dean Shehan and Eula Dobbins Shehan.

She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church where for 47 years she was church organist. Mary Helen worked for Hamrick, Nanney, Bowen and Dalton Attorneys as a paralegal. Prior to that, she worked for the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department under Sheriff Damon Huskey as the first female deputy in Rutherford County and later as secretary to the sheriff.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Robert Cecil Vickers of the home, son, Robert Scott Vickers, and wife Denita of Forest City, daughter, Debbie Vickers Harris, and husband Scott of Rutherfordton, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one expectant great-grandchild.

The funeral was held November 23, 2021, at Crestview Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Rohm officiating.
