Nellie Lee Jenkins Moss, 102, passed away Aug. 13, 2019.



Nell was born in 1917 in Greensboro, the eldest of three daughters of Robert Samuel Jenkins and Inez Saint Sing Jenkins.

 She graduated from high school in York, SC., and worked as bookkeeper in Shelby, for the Anthony and Anthony Insurance Agency and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company and in both Shelby and Charlotte, for B.F. Goodrich Company. In Forest City, she was bookkeeper for the G.B. Harrill Insurance Agency for nearly 35 years, retiring in 1986. 

Raised in the Presbyterian faith, she joined the First United Methodist Church of Forest City when she married James Madison Moss on June 22, 1942, and remained a lifelong member. They had a son, Madison Scott Moss, who was born in 1948 on Nell's 31st birthday. 

Nell was an avid reader through much of her life who enjoyed a variety of fiction genres, particularly light mysteries. She was also a fan of British television series. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam, in 1955; her husband, Madison, in 1988; her mother, Inez, in 1995; her sister Katherine Inez ("Kitty") Jenkins in 2006; and her sister Robbie ("Bobbie") Jenkins Dunlap in 2007. Nell was a loving and tireless caregiver to her husband, her mother, and her sister Kitty. 

Nell is survived by her son, Scott, of Forest City; her nephew Paul Elliot Moss, Jr., of Montpelier, Va., and his sons Charles Emmitt Moss and wife Kimberley Kane of Dinwiddie, Va., and Michael Stuart Moss and his husband Ryan Paul Libel of Chicago, Ill.; her niece Judith Dunlap Deason of Plum Branch, S.C., and Judi's daughter Shannon Atchley Allen and two grandchildren; her nephew Peter Jennings Dunlap and his wife Martha of Ladson, S.C., and their son John Marshall Dunlap and his wife Nicole and daughter Annie of Tampa, Fla.; and her nephew Christopher Wright Dunlap of California.



A graveside memorial service was held in the Cool Springs Cemetery in Forest City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Forest City, 341 East Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043, and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
