Opel Dennis Earls, 64, of Mooresboro, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 27, 2012.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Opal and Sarah Estelle Godfrey Earls. He is also predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Earls; two brothers, John Earls and Buck Earls. He was a member of Camps Creek Baptist Church. He worked in construction as an industrial electrician before becoming disabled, and then became a full time Pawpaw. Opel was truly a kind man. He saw the best in everyone and, in every instance, put others before himself. He always found joy and laughter in friends and family. Never meeting a stranger, and always wearing a warm and welcome smile.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Joyce Graves Earls, of the home; a son, Opel Dennis (Opie) Earls, II and wife Nikki; and his heart, his loving grandson, Elijah Zachary Earls, all of Mooresboro, NC.; Also left to cherish fond memories are brothers, Wilbur Lee Earls, George G. Earls and wife Pandora; Arthur P. Earls and wife Jolynne; Joel D. Earls and Wife Shirley, all of Mooresboro; Tracy Earls and wife Stacie of Conover, NC and Joseph Earls and wife Robin of Statesville, NC. Surviving sisters are Norma Sue Keown and husband Carl; Cynthia Bridges and husband Rick, all of Mooresboro, NC; Judy (Susie) Henderson and husband Terry of Spartanburg, SC and Mary Drake of Gaffney, SC; sisters-in-law, Sallie Earls of Mooresboro, NC, Tina Earls of Bostic, NC, Myrtle Bell of Kings Mountain, NC; brother-in-law, Terry Wiggins of Inman, SC; his mother-in-law, Mary G. Wiggins of Gaffney, SC who loved him as a son.
Funeral services were held at Camps Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Morehead officiating. Burial followed at Camps Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
