The history of Helimission relates that in 1968 God gave Ernie Tanner a special assignment. He should use helicopters to alleviate and accelerate the work of pioneer missions. After hearing about how indispensable helicopters were in the Vietnam war he saw that helicopters could be used for missionary work to help people in need. Helimission has three permanent bases in Madagascar, Papua and Sulawesi (Indonesia.) Helimissions' aim is to bring social, medical and spiritual help to people in remote and inaccessible areas. Jungle Aviation and Relay Service (JAARS) brought two fixed-wing airplanes and a helicopter giving people the opportunity to experience flying. JAARS, based in Waxhaw, covers the last mile of missions using special-purpose aircraft, boats, and off-road vehicles so that unreached people can experience God's word and His love. JAARS operates primarily in the green band of rainforest climates around the world. Reaching people who live beyond the reach of airline flights, boat charters or bus routes is the distance covered by JAARS' last mile of missions. For more information go to jaars.org/connect.
