With rain and thunderstorms forecasted for much of the day, opening night for the Owls literally had a cloud of uncertainty around it. But despite some early pregame showers and heavy storms that ultimately suspended the game in extra innings, history was made at McNair Field on Tuesday night.

An opening night record of 3,201 saw the Owls host the Asheboro Copperheads, breaking the previous mark of 2,675 set in 2008 during the Owls first season in Forest City.

“Amazing,” exclaimed Owls general manager Jeremy Boler. “Absolutely amazing. I can’t say enough about the fans and their commitment to the Owls. That was one of the best atmosphere’s we have ever had at McNair Field. For the fans to show up despite the weather, it was very special, and we are truly thankful to have the best fans in the Coastal Plain League.”

Opening night also marked the first J’s $2 Tuesday of the season, brought to fans by J’s Salvage. For the 2012 season, every Tuesday game will feature $2 general admission tickets, and discounted prices on both box and premium seats.

“We were very excited to introduce J’s $2 Tuesdays, and it all ties in to our community give back theme for this season,” added Boler. “We want to give back to the local communities and we are offering specials that I believe reflect that. Based on the attendance last night, I definitely think our fans responded”.

The Owls will next be at McNair Field on Friday, June 1st as they host the Columbia Blowfish. Friday will also mark the first fireworks night this season, with a show scheduled for after the game. Game time is set for 7:30PM. Gates open at 6:00PM for season ticket holders, and 6:30PM for the general public.

The Forest City Owls are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 46 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
