Owls Sign Two from Auburn

Craig Shirley & Colton Davis
   The Forest City Owls announced today the signing of two Auburn Tigers to the 2012 roster. Outfielder Colton Davis, pitcher and infielder Craig Shirley will both play their first season in the Coastal Plain League with the Owls.

   Davis, a 6’1”, 184 pound Freshman was selected in the 50th round of the 2011 draft by the Houston Astros. In 2011 Davis hit .439 with a .577 on base percentage as a senior, going 34-for-36 in stolen bases and scoring 43 runs. Davis was named to the 2010 & 2011 First Team All-County and 2010 & 2011 First Team All-Conference. Davis also was selected to the 2011 Florida State All-Star Game.

   “Davis and Shirley are both Freshman coming to Forest City from Auburn. Colton [Davis] is a versatile outfielder who will be able to help us at all three outfield positions and be a leadoff type hitter,” said Owls Head Coach Phil Disher.

   Shirley, a 6’4”, 225 pound Freshman will begin his first season at Auburn. In his Junior season Shirley hit .477 with 18 home runs, 72 RBIs and 48 runs scored, leading Alabama 6A schools in home runs. As a senior Shirley hit .350 with 10 home runs and 38 RBIs. In 2010 Shirley was named 2012 Max Preps Junior All-American, 2010 6A All-State infielder, 2010 Dothan Eagle Player of the year and 2010 Louisville Slugger All-American. In 2011 Shirley was named First team All-State first baseman.

   Craig [Shirley] is a two way player that will be help us out of the bullpen and be able to a fill in infielder if we need one. We are very excited to have both these guys and they should be able to make huge contributions towards a winning season this summer,” said Disher.

   Owls Opening Night is set for May 29 vs. the Asheboro Copperheads.  A limited number of season tickets are still available for the 2012 season. Season Tickets begin at less than $5 a game.    The Forest City Owls are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 46 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
