Paul Vernon Toney, 90, of Mooresboro, passed away Friday January 11, 2013.

A native of Rutherford County, he was born on September 15, 1922 a son of the late Benjamin Cicero and Dora Jones Toney. He was retired from Cone Mill Haynes plant, a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he was a former deacon.

Paul was also a WWII Army veteran.  He served as a rifleman attached to the Second Division of Merrill’s Marauders.  He was one of the original Marauders who volunteered.   During Paul’s active service duty, he received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and Bronze Star Attachment (Double), World War II Victory Medal, and Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Mintz Toney; one son, Steve Vernon Toney and wife Louise of Ellenboro; two daughters Nancy Hallman and husband Mike of Ellenboro, Paulette Mode and husband Clyde of Ellenboro; one brother Rev. Dr. Robert Toney of Bostic; eight grandchildren & thirteen great grandchildren; 

Funeral services were held at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Sepaugh, Dr. Wayne Blackwood, Dr. Robert Toney. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
