Rachel Jane Metcalfe Summey, age 94

Rachel Jane Metcalfe Summey, age 94, died Monday, June 27, 2022.

She was born February 16, 1928, to Charles Harold Metcalfe, Sr., and Jennie Louise Hawkins in Cliffside. Rachel graduated from Cool Springs High School in Forest City, attended Mary Washington College, and graduated from Florida Southern University. She pursued post-graduate studies in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Rachel married Mark Lee Summey in March, 1957. They devoted themselves to raising their three daughters. She was active in Spindale United Methodist Church. Rachel's career was in social work with the Department of Social Services of Rutherford County.

Rachel was predeceased by her parents, her brother Harold Metcalfe, and her husband Mark. She is survived by daughters, Jane Anthony Summey (Dale Mullennix) of Charlotte, Sallie Summey Smith of Rutherfordton, and Susan Summey Wilkening (Leif) of Locust Grove, VA, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service was held July 9 at Spindale United Methodist Church.
