Matthew Melton AGACNP-BC, recently graduated from University of South Carolina, with a Master of Science in Nursing and Adult Gerontology Acute Critical Care Nurse Practitioner, graduating with a 4.5 GPA, Magna Cum Laude.
Matthew started in the Teen Volunteer Program at Rutherford Regional Hospital at age 12. Mrs. Ginger Dancy, Volunteer Director accepted Matthew into the Volunteer program. He volunteered for five years, totaling 1654 hours in the Lab, Operating Room, and the Emergency Room. He was awarded the Teen Volunteer of the Year Award for Rutherford County in 2007.
After graduation from Chase High School in 2001 with Honors. He enrolled at Isothermal Community College in the Foothills Nursing Consortium and graduated in May 2013, 1st in his class with an Associate of Applied Science Degree, RN. He was the recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Award at the Foothills Nursing Consortium's pinning ceremony.
Matthew was also chosen as Student of the Semester by the staff and faculty and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
After graduation he began working at Rutherford Regional Hospital in 2013, while studying for his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, receiving this in January of 2015, again graduating with Honors.
He moved to Nashville, TN in January 2015, accepting a position in Medical Intensive Care at Centennial Memorial Hospital. After eight months, Matthew accepted a position with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, working in Surgical Trauma ICU and the Trauma Bays in the Emergency Room.
In November 2016, Matthew moved to Greenville, SC, accepting a position at Greenville Memorial Hospital, working in Neuro and Surgical Trauma ICU. He also started classes at the University of South Carolina in August 2017, working toward a Master of Science in Nursing.
In December 2017, Matthew moved to Charleston, SC and accepted a position at the Medical University of South Carolina, working in Medical and Surgical ICU. After graduating from The University of South Carolina, in August 2019, Matthew accepted a position as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia in November 2019.
Matthew is the son of Billy and Lynn Melton and the grandson of Bill and Evelyn Melton, all of the Chase community. Also the grandson of the late Bobby and Joann Shytle of Forest City.
