Rutherford Hospital School Of Nursing Holds 50 Year Reunion
Rutherford Hospital School Of Nursing Holds 50 Year Reunion

On Saturday, September 27th the Rutherford Hospital School of Nursing (RHSN) class of 1964 held its 50th class reunion at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.  Of the 15 classmates who graduated, 11 were in attendance for the day’s events.

The day’s events started in the morning at the Saint Luke’s Chapel located on the hospital grounds for a special “In-Memoriam” celebration.  The group took time to remember and to offer prayer and thanks for their past teachers, friends, doctors, staff, patients, and others who were an integral part of their lives during their three years at Rutherford Hospital (1961-1964). As part of this remembrance the ladies enjoyed an opportunity to sing songs and play the organ as they had during their years at the hospital.

Tight Game, But R-S Central Handles First County Test

Chase certainly made things tough, but round one of the Rutherford County football championship goes to R-S Central.

While R-S Central on paper had the advantage coming into the contest, it became a test of two defenses that stood out as the Hilltoppers hosted Chase last Friday.

The leaves are changing color and are beginning to fall. In my area this is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Thousands will come to see the autumn colors that blanket the mountains of East Tennessee. The protective canopy that had surrounded us hunters just a few weeks ago will now surrender its leaves and expose us as an unwanted intruder. The forest will change, led by the leaves on each tree. This is a change orchestrated by God.

Do your plans always work out?

A friend of mine moved.  The movers arrived with her stuff at her new home.  They brought in all of her furniture and put it where she asked them.  They set up her beds and placed the mattress and box springs just right.  Then they started bringing in boxes.  Being the organized person that she is, she asked them to put the boxes in the rooms they had come from in her previous home—you know, dining room stuff in the dining room.  Well, the movers looked kinda sheepish and said, “Lady, we don’t know what came from where.  We didn’t label the boxes.”

Well, at first, she got angry, thinking about all the wasted time she’d spend walking from room to room.  But after the movers left, she said, it was kinda fun, almost like Christmas, opening up boxes not knowing what was in each one.

Things don’t always go like we plan them, do they?  The next time something doesn’t go the way you wanted, remember my friend and just think “Christmas.”  You can have some fun even when things don’t go the way you plan by listening to life today and making a positive life, not just a living.

RC Has Tough Gridiron Night, Maybe Talk Some NASCAR Too

Last Friday was a night Rutherford County football would soon like to forget. Following the games, the County went 0-3 over the weekend.

Two games were close this past weekend and there are two favorable matchups this upcoming Friday (10/3/14).

In Georgia, Thomas Jefferson (3-2) gave Rabun Gap all they could handle, but three turnovers ruined a chance at victory, falling 37-24. The Gryphons put up nearly 400 yards offense as Bradley Freels threw for 284 yards and a touchdown.

Have you ever wondered about wonder? I mean have you ever thought why you attribute a beauty or awe to certain things? Have you ever been amazed how a large tree can grow from the tiniest crack in a massive rock? Have you ever been rapt by a sunset, a blanket of fog, or ridge of mountains in the fall? I know you have. And I also know you’re beginning to think I’m spending too much time in a tree stand, bored from not seeing deer. Not yet, but I can say this. Deer hunters are people who get to see some of the greatest wonders of earth.

Do you take life at face value?

I thought it was just another photo.  But then my friend said, “This picture was taken by Aycock Brown.”

Now you may not have heard of Aycock Brown, but he’s a wonderful photographer who has shot a lot of pictures around Kitty Hawk, North Carolina where a hundred years ago, the Wright Brothers launched the first powered flight by man.  So my friend describes this photo by Aycock Brown as featuring the Wright Brothers Memorial, which stands up on a ridge, with the moon in the background.

And I’m thinking to myself, “Well, that sounds nice, but nothing spectacular.”  Then my friend says, “Aycock Brown took a radio out with him that night.  And that picture was taken at the exact moment that Neil Armstrong stepped onto the surface of the moon and said, ‘One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.”

At face value, the photo was just another nice one.  But knowing the whole story made it significant.

Listen to your life today for the whole story so you can make a positive life, not just a living.
