Lulu’s Rescue, a nonprofit all-breed dog rescue based in Pennsylvania, is preparing to donate a “pod” that will bring low-cost spay/neuter services to Rutherford County.
Some say he turned NASCAR in a different direction internally two decades ago. Some say that it was a bad thing, some disagree. I could see both sides.
I spent the better part of a day riding a four-wheeler, scouting, and helping friends put up a tree stand. The weather was beautiful with temperatures in the mid 70’s and a very low percentage of humidity.
Do you have wandering eyes?
You’re sitting in a restaurant in an end-of-the-aisle booth. Your back is to the front of the establishment. The person sitting across from you has a view of the dining room. You have only the person in front of you to look at; there’s even a large petition behind her, separating you from the kitchen.
You’re enjoying your conversation with your friend, but occasionally her eyes dart off to the side and she looks with anticipation at some person moving to a table. You see the anticipation as one of those “Do I know this person?” looks.
“No problem,” you think.
But then it happens again. And again. And again. And pretty soon you find yourself leaning out into the aisle just to catch your friend’s eyes.
Do you think your friend’s glad to be with you? And really enjoying your conversation?
Probably not. So the next time you’re with someone, listen with your eyes. Pay attention to what’s really important so you can achieve your Work Positive lifestyle.

The permanent Farmers Market in Forest City has surpassed any previously expected achievement. It is already crowded with local purveyors of locally grown farm fresh foods as well as home made and local created items. There is pleasant air throughout the market. People greeting friends and so many on a “discovery tour”! A local musician fills the air with music. Soap makers, herbal offerings, plants, free coffee, homemade breads are just some of the many offerings in addition to local grown vegetables.
So last week I mentioned Harris Speedway and the winners of each division. I know they should be more incorporated in my column and after hearing what went on this past weekend, it showed an example of why it is an important part of our county.
For those who don’t know, Zach Gault who is a young dirt track racer has MS and will face surgery in August because of his muscle disease.
I walked up the hill with my tree stand in one hand and my back pack in the other. It was only a short trek so I decided to carry the backpack instead of wearing it on my back. As I came to the crest of the hill, so did two doe from the other side. We both caught each other’s movement at the same time and were only about 50 yards between us. We both stopped and stood motionless and I could tell they were unsure about what I was. I think the tree stand and the backpack gave them an unfamiliar silhouette. I don’t know why I froze. It wasn’t like I had anything to shoot at them. It was just habit but since I had already decided to stay still, I was going to see what would happen.
Is it hot where you live?
It was one of the first hot summer days of the year. I was working outside on our farm. I don’t know about you, but it takes me a few times of working outside in the heat for my body to adjust. Since this was one of the first hot days, my body had not adjusted yet. So I was feeling pretty hot, sweaty, and tired out there working away.
I stopped to take my hat off and wipe my brow and in doing so looked up. And what to my wandering eyes should appear? Vultures. That’s right, three or four vultures were circling over me. And I thought to myself, “I must be feeling worse than I know.” I stood there and watched them for a few moments as they circled and circled me, eyeing me to see whether I would make it or not. The good news is they passed on over to somewhere else.
Often times in life, it seems like something ominous is circling you—rising interest rates or rumors of layoffs or a loved one has a terminal disease. In those times, remind yourself that life or business is better than it seems. That’ll it pass…as you live positive and work positive today.
