Big Springs Baptist Does It Again!
Big Springs Baptist Does It Again!
Four years ago, Big Springs Baptist performed a play called “Uncle Phils Diner”. It was so well received it added other performances. The play was combined with a dinner and it immediately became the best entertainment bargain in Rutherford County. The same play was performed two years in a row. Now the same thing has evolved with a second year of the play “Smoke On The Mountain”.

All I Can Do Is Speak My Piece
All I Can Do Is Speak My Piece

As I believe…people are people. Regardless of anything. It’s a shame that I have to talk about this subject in 2014, but I must this week.

The hottest sports topic of the week is L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling and everybody knows what he said. This is a tough topic to even discuss or think about, especially in the sports world. I do believe that the Clippers owner is guilty and a racist. He says that the tapes were doctored by his ex-mistress, but I am not convinced.

Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
I don’t consider myself computer illiterate but I’m also not a tech expert. I fall somewhere in-between. I used to spend more time learning about new gadgets but now I sort of just maintain until I’m forced to adapt or be left behind. One of the things that I’m trying to adapt to is my digital camera. I know, I know, don’t laugh. I’ve actually had the camera for a couple of years but all I’ve been doing is taking pictures the simplest way I could. I thought all of the buttons where there so they could sell it for more. (I feel the same way about my cell phone. Why can’t they just give me big numbers, lots of volume, and plenty of light?) I digress.

Listen To Life
Listen To Life

Do you look over your shoulder?

The part of the world where I live had some marvelous, beautiful, amazingly warm weather last month.  I’m talking about temperatures of 70 degrees and higher common for day after day.  Spring arrived early.  My daffodils popped up and bloomed virtually overnight.  My rose bushes started growing new leaves.  The maple trees turned red with buds.  The Bradford pears stood up and saluted all of us with their gorgeous white flowers.

What a great gift—to stir from the sleepy, dull winter early!  I remarked about the beautiful weather everywhere I went.  The response I received back was pretty common:  “Yea, the weather is beautiful, but don’t enjoy it too much or else you’ll get used to it.  And we might have another cold spell.”

Now I understand what they meant, but, listen: the only moment in time we have is right now.  Yesterday’s gone.  Tomorrow’s not here.  Avoid looking over your shoulder in either direction.

Listen to life and make a positive life, not just a living, in a negative world today.

Made a mistake lately?

As I mentioned yesterday, I was born with a head full of wonderfully curly hair and I was often compared to Shirley Temple as a child. I had no idea who Shirley Temple was since I was a toddler, but I always said “thank you” as my mother taught me. One day, my dad and I were shopping together and I saw a display of Shirley Temple videos. I got all excited and ran up to the videos and grabbed one. I turned around and yelled out to my dad in my loud two-year-old voice, “Look, Daddy! They made a movie about me!” He bought me three of them because I was so adorable.

We all make mistakes, don’t we? We can either take those mistakes and dwell on them or we can count on a divine chuckle along with a little help to turn our mistakes into a grand moment. Today, after you make a mistake, listen for a heavenly laugh and then discover how that mistake transforms into a grand moment for you.
