With her world shattered, a grandmother left to raise her daughter’s two children, she didn’t want to wait until her daughter was dead to make a difference.

Well, we have reached the softball and baseball playoffs among high school teams throughout the state. Rutherford County will have an impact as all eight schools made the postseason. Historically, that’s a county first since Thomas Jefferson came on the scene as an NCHSAA member.
In my area flea markets are more popular than the mall. On any given Saturday or Sunday cars and trucks will line the highways. They are full of people who are willing to walk down dimly lit paths where vendors sell everything from hamburgers to hardware. The prices at these places are always negotiable and tax is always included – or maybe even disregarded. These places have always given common folk opportunities to take what they have and sell it or trade it for something they want more. It’s as much a gathering place as anything.
How grateful are you?
A friend recently turned 40 and her husband threw her a most excellent birthday party, complete with lots of friends and family, great food, wonderful music, and a slide show that covered all of her 40 years. After the slide show, he asked her if she wanted to say something, and she did.
She started by thanking everyone for coming, and then started to cry very softly. Now what you need to know is that turning 40 for her was more significant than for you and me. Turning 40 for her meant that she has survived breast cancer after taking chemotherapy. Turning 40 for her meant that she’s still here with her husband and children. Turning 40 for her meant a heart overflowing with gratitude to God. And that’s why her soft tears.
Trust me—there wasn’t a dry eye in the room! Gratitude flooded everyone’s spirit.
Everything probably won’t happen just the way you want it to today. But when something does go wrong, remember my dear friend who turned 40…and just be grateful that you’re here. Live positive. Work positive today.

The Union Mills Learning Center (UMLC) will host its second annual Music at the Mills Bluegrass & Arts Festival on May 16 and 17. The festival is presented by Box Creek Wilderness and features 18 outstanding bluegrass and newgrass bands including headliners Darin & Brooke Aldridge.
As the Rutherford County school year comes down the homestretch, so does is the end of regular season on the diamond.
East Rutherford (17-2, 12-1) softball continued to impress despite capturing the No.1 SMAC seed for the playoffs. Last week, Savannah Davis was untouchable as she threw a no-hitter against Draughn.
I’ve suddenly become obsessed with one certain gobbler. It’s pretty smart and I have had my moments where I have been pretty dumb. Regardless, it’s still alive and has now become my number one priority until the season ends. I can take you to the area that it will roost in. I know it well. I actually think I missed this bird on opening day which makes it that much more wary of anything it cannot see. But since then, I have set up my son for an opportunity, but we set up too close.
Do you ever get caught doing something good?
I decided not to wait until the last minute this year to do my wife’s Mother’s Day shopping. So about two weeks before the big day, I took off on my lunch hour to get her presents. The previous week, my younger daughter and I bought the necessary cards and a special T-shirt she just had to have for her mother. So, knowing exactly what I wanted, because I talked with my older daughter, I went to the Super-Center, where I immediately walked up to what I wanted, made my purchases, and headed to the door…
…when what to my wandering eyes should appear but my wife, smiling, pushing her buggy right toward me, staring at my bag.
Now understand that I had called her earlier to see if she had any plans to go shopping. She had none. So I thought I was safe.
But I wasn’t. I was caught doing something good.
But I guess that’s a lot better than being caught doing something else.
Get caught doing something good for someone else as you listen to life today and make a positive life.
