Hilarious! That’s always the only word that comes to mind when I think of Larry’s first golf experience. He was invited to meet his brother-in-law at a golf course while on vacation. They met at the club and proceeded to pay for the round when he was met by a gentleman who had a British accent. With nose slightly pointed to the sky, the gentleman kindly let Larry know that he would not be able to wear his tank top while playing. (I’m already laughing) Larry, stunned, (not only because he was an “Amuricun” and a Tennessean), proceeded to let the gentleman know that he would just purchase one of their shirts. After browsing the selection, he quickly realized that his wife would not be pleased if he took his house payment and used it on one shirt.

Rutherford Regional Health Foundation will present an annual charity event on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Performing Arts and Conference Center at Isothermal Community College. “Women Together” will feature brunch, entertainment by an award-winning comedienne and a fashion show.
Grady the Groundhog, animal ambassador for Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park, will be making his annual winter prediction at noon on Sunday, February 2 behind the Old Rock Café in Chimney Rock Village, next to the park entrance. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., weather permitting, the public is invited to a free wildlife program to learn quirky things about groundhogs and the Groundhog Day tradition and participate in kids’ crafts.
How’s your timing?
We’re quite fond of what I call “salad in a bag” around our home. It’s a lot more convenient than buying all of these vegetables and slicing and dicing them. You just open the bag, reach in and grab a handful, put it on your plate, pour your favorite dressing on it, and voila! You’re eating salad.
I’ve noticed that once that bag is open though, it doesn’t matter how tightly I seal it, or if I put it in another bag, that salad is going to spoil pretty quickly. You’ve got to eat that salad in a bag for several days in a row if you want to enjoy it. Leave it for a week or so and it’s no good. I’ve decided that the difference between salad and garbage is timing.
And that’s true about a lot of things in life. You have an opportunity and that door opens at just the right time. But it’s up to you to walk through it in a timely fashion or the door closes. The opportunity is lost. It spoils into garbage.
Today, in the fullness of time, walk through the doors that open for you. You’ll know the time is right as you listen to life and make a positive life.

Who would have thought Thomas Jefferson’s guys would be atop the league standings toward the end of the basketball season in the Southern Piedmont 1A in the inaugural year? Well, it has happened. Mason Fenner hit four 3’s and totaled 21 points to help the Gryphons upset 1A basketball power Cherryville, 80-76 on the road last week.

Once again, the deer season is coming to a close. I always hesitate to write that it is completely finished this time of year because the Deep South is still in full rut. The rest of us, however, have traded our rifles for shotguns or fishing rods. This season has forced me to make a change for next year. In Kentucky, the bears have caused a major shift in the numbers and movement of deer where I hunt. I have watched this slowly occurring for the past several years hoping something would curtail this change. But it looks like I will be the one to change. I have had to do this before.
