Are you making memories of today?

  I coach a lot of people who think of themselves as human doings, not human beings; folks whose spirits are dry, who’ve run out of energy and excitement.  I coach them to listen to their lives and make a positive life, not just a living, and that yes, they can do that and no, their business is probably not going to help them do it.  I coach them to make memories of today.

 Here’s an example.  I received an email from a friend recently who graduated from high school about 50 years ago.  There was a young man from Finland, an exchange student, in her graduating class.  The two of them had written and talked over the years, but not seen each other since graduation…

…until the previous month.  She and her husband left their business in good hands and went to Finland to visit her classmate.  They had a great time, enjoying being with him and seeing the gorgeous Baltic Sea and other Finnish wonders.

Life is way too short for you to sell your soul to the company store.  Starting now, listen to your life and make a positive life, not just a living.

One of the golfers who comes often to Meadowbrook Golf Club seems to describe the club best when he says “it’s one of the best in this part of the country, hands down! All the people here are just wonderful.”

This golf club is celebrating 50 years and has come a long way since 1963. At that time, Kenneth Deck told his brother, Carson that he thought that establishing a golf club on the family farm and pastures, “just wouldn’t work”. Finally, when Carson told his brother he’d buy him out because be believed it would work, Kenneth said “well, alright I’ll go in with you.” 

Ever heard of Livermore, California? Rutherfordton will forever remember the place as the Intermediate 50/70 Little League South Regionals Champions from Rutherfordton are there this week.

Last week, Rutherfordton (11-13 age) captured the South Region in Tennessee and go for the World Series title just east of San Francisco this week at Max Baer Park.

USDA Extends Acreage Reporting Deadline for FSA to August 2, 2013

High School football kicks off with it’s first scheduled practice around the state for all schools on August 1st. I know it‘s a little early, but I thought why not preview both conferences that affect Rutherford County.

The South Mountain Athletic Conference is a two-tier conference this season whether you like it or not. One through four and five through nine should be in a heated battle all year long. I wish I could pick R-S, Chase and East Rutherford among the top, but this is what I honestly foresee.

Vacation Bible School Begins

How fast does time fly for you?

   My Grandfather used to tell me, “Son, I don’t understand it, but the older you get, the faster time flies.”

   Frankly I thought he was just an old man musing about life.  I was younger, bullet-proof, sure that I could do whatever I wanted.  When I was a kid, I thought it took forever for my birthday to arrive.  Then finally I was a teenager.  Then finally I could drive.  Then finally I was 21.

   But now that I’m a little older and hopefully a little wiser, I’m beginning to understand what he meant.  Life has a way of accelerating as you get older.  I don’t understand it either, but I just know that the days get shorter and I wonder, “Where did the week go?” and “Is it already the weekend?”  Then one morning you wake up and recall all of those times you said, “I’m going to…” and “I plan on…” and you’ll do it all “When things settle down a bit.”

   I’m not really sure that day ever arrives.  So today, do something you’ve been talking about for way too long.  Just do it.  Go for it.  Achieve something positive as you live positive and work positive today.

In a former three room schoolhouse which now houses American Legion Post 423 in Henrietta, a proclamation has been made. It is to permanently change U. S. Route 74 and U. S. Route 221 to the Jerry Crump Memorial Highway and the Bryant  Womack Memorial Highway respectively. To finally and outwardly honor the two sons of Rutherford and Polk County is long overdue.
