East Rutherford Reclaims SMAC; Panthers and NASCAR On Agenda Too
East Rutherford Reclaims SMAC; Panthers and NASCAR On Agenda Too
The Cavaliers are used to big games and pressure situations at this point. The baseball program has seen their share of those moments and that in turn may have helped them get a monster win over Burns last week.

East Rutherford now takes over sole possession of the SMAC after Ridge Beheler fired a complete game shutout against the Bulldogs.

East Rutherford (15-4, 9-1) already playoff bound, must win one of the final two conference games to earn the No.1 2A seed from the SMAC. Beating Shelby at home on Tuesday (5/1/12) would be the two for one deal as they would capture the No.1 2A seed and finish no worse than gaining a share of the SMAC title.

facebook Celebrates Rutherford County!
facebook Celebrates Rutherford County!
You could call it a celebration, but it was more of a salute or thank you from both Facebook, North Carolina and especially Rutherford County. One might say, it was a mutual admiration party enjoyed by over 300 people. In the true tradition of our heritage, it was declared a pig pickin’. The big white tent at Facebook’s 284 Social Circle held dignitaries and honored guests. The speeches were both appropriate and gratefully,  brief. To use today’s jargon, it was a magnificent “shout out” by everyone involved. All parties involved in the creation of Facebooks data center conveyed appreciation and especially pride. After all from all over our nation and the world, Rutherford County was chosen above anyone else. It definitely was  a magnificent achievement.

Listen To Life
Made a mistake lately?

As I mentioned yesterday, I was born with a head full of wonderfully curly hair and I was often compared to Shirley Temple as a child. I had no idea who Shirley Temple was since I was a toddler, but I always said “thank you” as my mother taught me. One day, my dad and I were shopping together and I saw a display of Shirley Temple videos. I got all excited and ran up to the videos and grabbed one. I turned around and yelled out to my dad in my loud two-year-old voice, “Look, Daddy! They made a movie about me!” He bought me three of them because I was so adorable.

Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
I left the woods after an unsuccessful evening turkey hunt. On my way out I noticed where some of my feathered friends had been scratching. Of course I had to slip out of my truck and see if I could locate one of those birds for the next morning. Sure enough, he was there high in a tree just waiting on me to show up the following day to introduce him to my Winchester 1300. There was only one problem. I had already made other arrangements for the next morning. And even though they were not carved in stone, they would take some real creativity to change. After some calls were made and planning was done, I was still unable to change my original appointment. Plan B went into effect. Perhaps I could adjust my plans and go in just a little later and catch that bird on his morning stroll back down the mountain. Sounds good……. But again, plan B was squashed with authority. I ended up only wondering “what if”, the next day.

Baseball: TJCA’s Win Streak Snapped, Atlanta’s Braves Not So Bad...For Now
Thomas Jefferson’s longest win streak in school history was stopped last week on the baseball field. Riding high on a six-game win streak, the Gryphons fell 8-7 to Mountain Heritage and then Polk County shut them out later in the week. Luckily, both are 2A clubs in the Western Highlands and the Gryphons still cling to a #1 playoff seed in the 1A portion of the conference for now. Thomas Jefferson is 11-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Outcroppings Trail to Chimney Reopens at Chimney Rock
Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park, one of the Southeast’s most iconic and popular outdoor travel destinations, reopened the Outcroppings trail on Saturday, April 14, 2012. The rebuilt trail offers new stunning views of the Park, increased capacity and improved comfort with more places to rest.  The reopening of the Outcroppings trail, which leads from the upper parking lot to the Chimney stairs, permanently restores hiking access to the Chimney, the Opera Box, Devil’s Head and Skyline trail to Exclamation Point, the highest point in the Park. The modernized elevator and Sky Lounge Gift Shop & Deli are expected to reopen sometime later this spring. Discounted admission rates as of April 14 will be $12/adult, $5/youth (ages 6-15) and free for kids under 6.
