Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
I’ve always heard that writing is more about perspiration than inspiration. It’s true. Even though it is very fulfilling to write about the outdoors, it is also difficult at times to continue to find worthy subjects and stories. Sometimes my mind soars with information faster than my fingers can type. Other times those same fingers seem like they’re waiting impatiently for the next command. During the times of inspiration I can’t wait to get to the computer. During other times I dread its call. Every writer loves the moments of inspiration.

“The Ballad Of Nancy Hanks”
“The Ballad Of Nancy Hanks”
Editors Note: Once again, the play “The Ballad Of  Nancy Hanks” was performed by the Rutherford Community Theatre. This time, it was presented at Concord Baptist Church. This made it a special event, because it is claimed that Concord Baptist is where Nancy Hanks attended and took her son, little Abraham. It is claimed that Bostic is where he was born. The mystery of  Abraham Lincoln’s birth still continues to this day. This article is offered as a suggestion which could benefit Rutherford County. The play is both interesting and well done.

East Baseball, Chase & East Softball Gain SMAC Share, Playoffs Next
East Baseball, Chase & East Softball Gain SMAC Share, Playoffs Next
The last time we left off, East Rutherford was all alone in first place to capture the South Mountain Athletic Conference baseball title, but instead they will share the title with Burns this season.

Burns won their final two games, while East earned a split for the week as a lost to Shelby produced the shared SMAC crown outcome.

However, all is not lost for East and two other county baseball teams in general who have made the playoffs which start this Friday. East Rutherford will host North Lincoln as a No.1 seed and have home field advantage throughout the postseason since the SMAC has seeding priority this time around in NCHSAA weird playoff system. That would take forever to explain. Trust me!

Listen To Life
Are you hanging on until you’re ripe?

When I lived on the coast of North Carolina, just across the road from us was a field of about a hundred acres of strawberry plants.  The owners ran an international plant shipping business and harvested berries to sell.

Migrant workers began picking in early April each year.  Most if not all of the strawberries they harvested weren’t ripe, mostly red on the outside, but not through the middle.  They didn’t spoil like this on the way to the store.

Outdoor Truths
If you have hunted for a considerable amount of time, you can trace your evolution. While once any deer would do; soon you held your shot for something larger. But what do you do after that?

I met a friend the other day that makes recurve bows by hand. He takes each piece of wood and allows its own characteristics to determine what it will ultimately look like. Most have some type of crook that doesn’t allow a perfect product, but they are extremely effective in the hands of a skilled archer. Not only does my friend make these bows, but he hunts with them as well. And I have seen his pictures of success with both turkeys and deer.
