I’m convinced that most hunters and fishermen never contemplate the outdoor world they take pleasure in. I know in my own life, that without a concerted effort, I only enjoy creation without ever giving it much deep thought. I’ve especially noticed this truth when I speak to hunters and fishermen. It seems their eyes light up when they come to a realization that nature speaks very loudly about some things that really matter. And that sometimes we really do not see the forest, for the trees. We would be very shallow people if we only saw nature as another avenue for our personal pleasure. The immensity of creation demands we question it. It demands we understand how our sport only touches the hem of its real value. Let’s face it; we only play on the fringes of all that is out there. It is enormous. And the more we look, the more we discover.

Start-Over Household Shower
For tornado victims, Ken & Tisha Boyd Farris, and their kids. Sun. July 10, 2-4pm at Whitehouse Community Center; 5408 Painters Gap Rd, Union Mills. Family lost EVERYTHING in the tornado in Joplin, Missouri, on May 22. The family is originally from the Whitehouse community. (Tisha is the daughter of Ray (deceased) and Betty Boyd of Whitehouse). The family will be relocating to Spartanburg, where Ken will have a job with the company he worked for in Joplin. Rutherford Regional Medical Center was recently gifted with 17 baby quilts, handmade by the Rutherford Quilt Guild, for use in The Birth Place nursery. Each quilt was accompanied by the children’s book which inspired the design.
I get in sort of a flux this time of year. I don’t know whether to fish, scout, shoot my bow, or stop it all until I get the yard and the house as momma would have it. But if I stop it all I really become an irritable guy. Maybe I could just call these trips therapy and get by with an occasional excursion.

One fall, he had the best apple crop for miles around. The apples were plentiful. There was a bumper crop. And there were hardly any bugs on them. You just couldn’t ask for a better apple crop than the one Hiram had that year.
