Rev. John R. "Pete" Bridges, age 81

Rev. John R. "Pete" Bridges, age 81 of Forest City died February 9, 2022.

He was born August 24, 1940, in Boiling Springs, and was a son of the late Colen Bridges and Zeta Holbert Bridges.

Rev. Bridges was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School and continued his studies at Fruitland Bible Institute and received his bachelor's in divinity from Mid-Atlantic Bible College. In years past, he was active in the Bus Ministry at Race Path Baptist Church and served as Associate Pastor at Wilson Baptist Church and finally as the Pastor at Community Baptist Church in Polkville.

Rev. Bridges was currently a member at Wilson Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by brother, Larry Bridges and sister, Denya Pruitt.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Barbara D. Bridges, sons, Chris Philbeck and wife Gabby of Shelby, Ricky Philbeck and wife Debra of Gastonia, daughter, Kim Upton and husband David of Forest City, sister, Peggy Smith of Shelby and a grandson, C.J. Philbeck of Shelby.

The funeral was held February 14, 2022, at Wilson Baptist Church with the Rev. Owen Duncan and Rev. Billy Bostic officiating.
