Reverend Roger Hudgins, age 80

Reverend Roger Hudgins, age 80, of Rutherfordton, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018.

Born October 26, 1937 in Rutherford County, he was the son of Zeb Hudgins and Lula Gibbs Hudgins. He worked for Henson's Trucking Company for fifteen years and served as pastor and associate pastor of several local churches. The years of pastoring included Sulphur Springs Congregational Holiness Church for ten years and Faith Temple of Spindale for five years. He currently has been serving as the associate pastor of Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church for the past twenty-seven years. Roger was called "Paw Paw" by all the children of the church and everyone knew him as the "Candy Man." He also enjoyed rabbit hunting. He loved his Lord, his Family and his Church Family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, Hubert Hudgins and Ernest Hudgins a sister, Lucy Hodge and one great-grandson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Patricia Hudgins; one son, Jimmy Ray Hudgins; daughter, Renee Monteith and husband, Randy all of Rutherfordton; brother, Wesley Hudgins and wife, Lena of Rutherfordton and a sister, Betty Wilson and husband, Morris of Forest City. He is also survived by three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and his church family who loved him dearly.

The funeral service was conducted at Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church. Rev Leon Brown and Rev Brian Bowlin officiated Interment followed in the church cemetery with Rev Chad Sisk and Rev Buddy Campbell conducting the graveside service.
