Rhett Oglesby, age 68, of Forest City, NC, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012.
Rhett was born on August 23, 1943 in Cowpens, SC to the late James Davis Oglesby and Nell Crow Oglesby.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, of forty-six years, Patti Hoon Oglesby; his children, Brian Oglesby and wife, Lindsey of Ellenboro and Tricia Oglesby Pyle and husband, Todd of Forest City. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Christa, Cooper, Lily and Sadie Oglesby and Zane, Brianna, Brennen Kingery and Cierra Pyle; one sister in-law Janet Hoon and father in-law, Chet Hoon.
Rhett was a 1965 graduate of Clemson University and retired as Human Resources Director of Dan River Inc. after more than 30 years of service. He pioneered and founded high school swimming in Rutherford County. He coached the Chase High Swim Team for 26 years and was inducted to the Chase High Sports Hall of Fame. He was also a three time recipient of the conference coach of the year award.
He served as a former chairman of the NC Region C Workforce Development Board, treasurer of Rutherford County Hospital Community Council, Board of Directors of Rutherford Free Clinic and past president of Rutherford County Human Resources Association. He was also a member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted at Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Carnell officiating.
