Rutherford Hospital Inc. has unveiled a new corporate brand for its organization, which will now be called Rutherford Regional Health System. The new logo and name were introduced on May 3 to department leaders and staff, foundation board members, and medical staff.

The organization remains independent and the new brand is not in any way associated with a change in ownership or affiliation. In fact, hospital leaders say, just the opposite is true.

“Our new name and logo is symbolic of growth and an exciting future,” said David Bixler, president and CEO. “We are independent and our intentions are to remain independent for the long term. This transition is representative of our desire to be progressive and our plans to grow. Our hope is that wherever you see our new name and logo you will have a sense of assurance that Rutherford County has a healthcare system at work to care for its residents from birth through the later stages of life.”

A primary reason for introducing a new brand is to competitively position Rutherford Regional Health System among other healthcare organizations in the surrounding areas. Joe Carson, chairman of the Rutherford Regional Board of Trustees, added, “The name and logo had not changed or been upgraded for many years. We are a contemporary, comprehensive medical system and our name and logo ought to reflect that.”

The organization also feels that the new brand serves to better educate the public about all of the services Rutherford Regional offers. Bixler added, “By referring to ourselves as a regional health system – and by featuring a common logo on all of our facilities – our community can better understand that we feature a full spectrum of healthcare offerings that includes family practices, general and orthopedic surgical practices, psychiatric care, home care, rehabilitation services, ultra modern imaging capabilities, emergency care, occupational medicine, an accredited cancer program and much more.”

The organization plans to begin transitioning to the new name next week, which coincides with National Hospital Week. Visible changes such as external signage will be among the first noticeable differences to take place. Leaders did note that the hospital facility itself will be referred to as Rutherford Regional Medical Center, but that all other outlying offices and services would feature the health system logo and name. In the coming weeks, all affiliated services will have the new brand featured on their signs.

“In a time of economic difficulty for our area and for healthcare in general, our organization has to be as proactive as possible from a marketing and visibility perspective. We can either be passive or we can be progressive and seek to constantly upgrade the way we present ourselves to our community,” said Carson. “The board unanimously felt we must continue to press forward with new and creative ways to communicate our wide range of services to this region. Upgrading our brand, the way we look, and the way we present ourselves externally is a positive start.”

Both Bixler and Carson added that upgrades to the system’s family practices and the addition of several new family practice providers are yet more signs that the organization is making a greater commitment than ever before to meeting community needs in all phases of healthcare.
