Rutherford Life Services library ribbon cutting held

John Carroll, an Aktion Club advisor, Kat Coldiron of Rutherford County Library, Rutherford Life Services (RLS) librarian Jonal McCarthy and Christy Beddingfield, Life Services Program Director, cut the ribbon to open the library at Rutherford Life Services. The library is a project of the Aktion Club sponsored by the Kiwanis Clubs of Rutherfordton and Forest City. The club meets monthly at Rutherford Life Services. The Aktion Club discovered that clients at RLS love to have someone read to them. Local policemen, firemen and volunteers have read to them in the past couple of years.

The library started because many people with different abilities cannot read and they learn by listening to others read. The Aktion Club wanted to help these clients strengthen their knowledge by having a time to select a book from the library that contains over 100 books to have a friend or staff member read to them.

The books were presented to the library and each contain a special nameplate for Aktion Club members and volunteers that have achieved something special.

Christy Beddingfield said the library was a "wonderful addition" and will help clients improve their reading skills and imagination.
