Rutherford Regional Health System (RRHS) has resumed regular delivery and obstetrical services with the reopening of The Birth Place and the arrival of two new obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYNs) to its medical staff on September 1. RRHS celebrated on Wednesday, August 26 with a community open house and meet and greet with the new physicians David Billue, MD FACOG and Susan Lee, MD.

The public toured the Birth Place after being introduced to the new doctors. Rutherfordton Mayor Jimmy Dancy welcomed Billue and Lee to the hospital and to the Town of Rutherfordton.

Representatives from the Birth Place, the Mammography Center and RRHS set up booths outside the Outpatient Department where they met the public. Goodie bags were also given to the public during the three hour open-house.

"Rutherford Regional Health System is committed to expanding access to healthcare for women in all stages of life," said Rebecca Segal, CEO of RRHS. "For the past year, our team has been working hard to restore OB-GYN services to our community, and we are proud to welcome Dr. Billue and Dr. Lee to our hospital and reopen The Birth Place."

The Birth Place provides a variety of services for mother and baby including education classes, labor and delivery in one of several comfortable birthing suites, breastfeeding support, and mother and infant care by a team of specially trained nursing staff. In addition to obstetric care, Dr. Billue and Dr. Lee will also provide gynecologic care and surgery at RRHS.

He graduated with his Doctor of Medicine from Medical College of Georgia (Augusta, Georgia) and completed his residency and internship at Portsmouth Naval Hospital (Portsmouth, Virginia). Dr. Billue is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and American College of Surgeons (FACOS).
