Sammy “Mark” Smith, age 50

Sammy “Mark” Smith, age 50, of Forest City, NC, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012.

Mark was born December 29, 1961 in Rutherford County, NC to Sammy Z. Smith and Frances Tessnear Smith.  He worked as a manager for McDonalds in Forest City, Morganton and Hickory for several years and owned and operated Smith Hardwood for many years.  He was known as the “best hardwood floor man” in Rutherford County.  He was an avid Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys fan.  He was also a car enthusiast and loved animals.  Mark will always be remembered for his kindheartedness. He was a member of Floyd’s Creek Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ruby Tessnear and great-grandmother, Vaughta Hollifield.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Glen Wilson officiating.  Interment followed in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
